Oge and Jideofor(ever)

August 8th, 2021

THE FIRST DAY

We met when we were 11 and 12 years old at Igbo mass at St. Peter and Paul’s church! We were pretty much indifferent to each other for the first five years -- depending on who you ask :). Towards the end of high school, we began talking more and more. Talking turned into instant messaging (thank God for Facebook and Aim lol). Messaging turned into hours long phone calls. Soon we were inseparable.
We dated all through college. We gave Greyhound a lot of our money as we both made the 15 hour trip between Pittsburgh and Western Massachusetts. After graduation, Jide moved to Boston to start his research position at the Whitehead Institute and Oge met him there the following year for medical school. We were glad to finally be done with long distance!
10 years worth of memories later and we have lived in 5 different cities together, had several adventures both in the US and abroad and had way too many 1AM snack runs to count. Jide is currently working on his PhD at MIT and Oge was lucky enough to match into a residency program nearby at Brown in Providence, Rhode Island.

THE BEST DAY

On July 1, 2017, Jide planned what Oge thought was an early birthday celebration. We started the day with a picnic at the Harvard Arnold Arboretum. Later in the afternoon, we made our way over to the Esplanade along the Charles River. Naturally what caught Oge’s eye was the hot dog stand nearby. Jide frantically urged Oge to hurry and get her hot dog but would not say why. Unbeknownst to Oge, a gondola for 2 with a personal gondolier was waiting to take them on an evening ride along the Charles! One bottle of champagne and a perfectly curated playlist later, we found ourselves strolling down the banks of the river while Jide was carrying a conspicuously large gift bag. Jide told Oge to close her eyes and Oge, thinking the bag held the sneakers she’s been hinting at for the past month, stuck out her foot. When she opened her eye, she found Jide kneeling down, holding a beautiful engagement ring.

THE YES DAY

After a 5 year engagement (and procrastination!) we are finally making our way to the altar! Thank you for your ongoing love and support. We are so excited to share this day with you and look forward to dancing the night away with all of our favorite people!
